Description
This juvenile Red Winged Blackbird climbs to new heights as he explores the trees near my home. At first I wasn't sure what type of bird he was - but as I listened to him and watched his behavior, it soon became apparent he was a Red Winged Blackbird. These are fun birds to watch. And here's an interesting bird fact for you - the males of this species have many female mates...up to 15 in some cases! It's not just the males who are polygynous, however. The females typically mate with the territory holder, but will also step out and mate with nearby males. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, I guess. :)
