After the illegal killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe in early July 2015, it is no doubt lions around the world are looking to meet up with the Minnesota dentist who paid over $50,000 for the pleasure of killing the magnificent creature. Cecil was a protected lion and one of the most famous animals at the Hwange National Park. He was lured out of the park with bait and shot with a bow and arrow, but was not immediately killed. The wounded animal suffered for 40 hours, until the hunting group ultimately shot and killed him. Cecil was skinned and beheaded. Cecil was fitted with a GPS collar and tracked by the Oxford University research program, according to a statement from the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force. The dentist has been in trouble before with his hunting practices - he plead guilty in 2008 for lying to a federal agent about where he shot a black bear in Wisconsin and was fined and sentenced to probation.
